You are witnessing another
phase of the DC hip hop movement. DC has a list of
rap pioneers including the first to put our city on the
map in a major way the legendary DJ Kool. DJ Kool is
best known for his platinum single "Let me clear my
throat". Since then we've had strong follow ups by
Non-Chalant who moved the industry with her smash hit Five
O'clock. Not to mention Tra' Lee's hit "The Theme".
Many other good artists include DC Scorpio, Stinky Dink
and Blyss. As of late our own Wale is moving up with
his city wide hit "Dig Dug". Organized Rhyme
Family's own Tabi Bonney's climb to success should prove
interesting as his hit song "The Pocket" takes off and
hits the charts. The year 2007 could
prove to be an exciting one for DC hip-hop artists.
There's a not-so well known
secret about the MC's in the Washington DC area. Our MC's
and rappers can compete with the best from any
jurisdiction. Their lyrics and rhymes are fire. Mock our
words, the industry will soon respect the lyricist of our
city and suburbs. Contrary to popular believe, everyone in
DC does not sound like Scar-face or 2Pac. Even though many
of them are born "Hustlers" they don't sound like Cassidy
either. The artists featured here have many styles ranging
from battle rhymes to lyrics of empowerment and social
consciousness. Once you've heard these gifted rappers and
MC's, you'll say to yourself "Jigga who?"
